Jarrah timber is assuredly a sustainable
natural resource the harvest is of which is now strictly controlled by the
government of Western
Australia.*
The rare,
natural beauty of timber from a jarrah tree has a fine, variable grain with
occasional natural features.
Colours range from a rich chocolate brown to a soft salmon
pink.
Jarrah is a unique
eucalypt, growing only in the South West corner of
Australia.
Historically, Jarrah’s
hard-wearing nature saw massive quantities exported as railway sleepers and to
cobble some of the great cities of Europe.
In
Australia the timber has been extensively used
in construction. One of the best
examples is the Busselton jetty which has been in service for well over a
century and extends 1837 metres into the Indian Ocean.
